Foods and Spices for Natural Hair Coloring

There are a variety of ways to color your hair. Natural hair dyes are one option. The most common way is with traditional dyes that you can purchase from the store or that can be utilized in salons to provide you with a hair color that you desire. Sitting in a hair salon waiting for a hair technician to serve you can be time-consuming and very costly. Traditional hair dyes can also create problems for individuals who have sensitive scalp.

As an alternative, many choose to use spices and natural foods to color their hair:

1. Using juices to color your hair.
There are a variety of juices that can color your hair. With carrot juice, beet juice and lemon juice, all of these juices can either color or tint your hair with subtle undertones. With beet juice and carrot juices, the processes are similar in that they consist of mixing the juices with a carrier oil, apply liberally to the hair, wrap the hair and leave in hair for an hour then wash out. Lemon juice is the only juice that doesn’t require you to use a carrier oil. Simply pour lemon juice in a spray bottle and spray liberally on the hair. Make sure the solution is distributed evenly through the hair with a comb and let sit for an hour. To get optimal results, you could sit in the sun for a period of time for a lighter result.

2. Natural henna dye.
This natural plant based ingredient gives long lasting results. Mix a half cup of henna with a quarter cup of water until it has a consistency of mashed potatoes. Cover the solution with a plastic wrap and let the solution sit for 12 hours. Apply an oil such as coconut oil to the hairline to avoid skin discoloration then apply this mixture to damp hair in small sections, cover and let sit for at least 2 hours and no more than 6 hours, then wash the solution out. This color solution lasts 4 to 6 weeks.

3. Using coffee and tea.
Coffees and teas are for more than just a quick pick me up. These beverages can be used to provide a dark rich color to the hair. Using a dark roast coffee, you would brew a cup of joe and mix a half a cup of the liquid, 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds with a leave in conditioner. Apply this mixture to damp hair and leave in for about an hour. Wash the solution out and repeat until you have the desired results. Chamomile tea is a great way to lighten your hair. You can steep a half cup of flowers in boiling water. Allow to cool for 30 mins, strain the flowers and apply the solution to damp hair and let sit for 16 minutes.

These natural hair coloring foods are an excellent way to color the hair without damage to the scalp. They are cost effective for the budget and saves time as you are able to apply these techniques at your convenience. By limiting your use of styling tools, you are able to make your color last longer and appear more vibrant. These are natural ways to do hair color on your terms.
