Acne is one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to teens or adults. To make matters worse, pimples always seem to spring up at the most inopportune times. The best way to deal with acne problems is to alter your diet so that your skin always stays clear. Here are some of the best anti-acne foods you can start incorporating into your diet to prevent breakouts in the future:

1. Kale
One of the finest foods for clear skin is Kale. It beats out the other members of the cabbage family due to the sheer number of nutrients packed into each serving. Kale contains manganese, copper, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and four types of vitamins. Each of these minerals works to reduce hyperpigmentation, which is the best way to even out your skin tone. Vitamin C bolsters collagen production which will help replace old tissue with healthy cells.

2. Sweet potatoes
Each serving of sweet potatoes includes a large helping of Retinol. This Vitamin A derivative is capable of fighting off ance and may even prevent wrinkles. More specifically, your body converts the beta-carotene into Vitamin A. This can mitigate skin discoloration and reduce the likelihood of your pores getting blocked by free radicals.

3. Lemons
Lemons are a natural astringent, which means they keep your skin in top shape. Beware of topical treatments because they are so acidic that they can damage your skin over time. A great way to get the benefits of lemon is to squeeze some into water or get a serum that contains a heavy dose of citrus.

4. Berries
You can eat berries on their own or mix them into a variety of other foods. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and cherries are all great sources of antioxidants and vitamins. Having these nutrients circulate your blood supply is a great way to regulate your skin tone and prevent acne.

5. Pumpkin
Each pumpkin is filled to the brim with fruit enzymes, zinc, and alpha-hydroxy acids. These components restore the pH balance of your body and often the skin quite effectively. The zinc will reduce the amount of oil that builds up on your skin. Excess oil provides the perfect environment for acne to form. It is no wonder that pumpkin is one of the main ingredients used in many exfoliating masks.

6. Legumes
All manner of legumes is low-glycemic, meaning that they regulate blood sugar. When your blood sugar is out of whack, acne tends to flare up in droves. Of course, you need to avoid other foods that spike blood sugar levels. That will merely cancel out the legumes that you consume.

7. Salmon
Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. You get tons more if you eat a fillet with the skin still attached. Omega-3 fatty acids prevent your skin from damaging effects that cause acne and brown spots. While salmon is the best source of Omega-3s, you can still get a solid dose from mackerel, sardines, and anchovies if you can’t stand the aroma. All of these fish are great foods for clear skin.
